Caller: How’s it going with A, B and C?
Me: It’s good. More A, B and D now. How about you and delivery of X,Y and Z?
Caller: I want to talk about something beyond the alphabet here. The 27th letter if you like – let’s call it Omega. I think it would be a brilliant idea for us to deliver Omega.
Me: Sounds fantastic. And does Omega come...

‘George Clooney Is Lonely, Can’t Sleep’
So said a newspaper headline today, being read by the man in front of me on the bus. My immediate thought was, ‘hey, me too, half the world’s lonely and can’t sleep, why is this news?’

Pupils in Year 5 have been working with Paul Hamilton and Maureen Neil, two local artists, on work connected to the theme ‘Diversity’.
This is Georgia’s work so far. She says it isn’t finished yet. We think that it looks stunning just the way it is! We can’t wait to see the end result! Well done Georgia!

School was filled with excitement today when a very special delivery arrived. No one was quite sure what was being carried across the car park – but it looked very-much like a human-sized toad!
To our surprise we discovered it WAS a human-sized toad – it was a sculpture of Mr Toad from The Wind In The Willows! Mr Toad had been made...

Caller: A conference only for black writers? That’s racist to white people!
Me: Under the Equality Act 2010 and its provision for Positive Action, the conference is justified because we as an organisation reasonably think that Black writers suffer a disadvantage linked to their race and have a disproportionately low level of participation in...

Our incident tape with “work, hope, pray, long for PEACE” has arrived and is ready for adorning buildings or whatever other uses (legal and tidy of course) people may come up with. The idea is to stir up a bit of a buzz around the community, get some conversations going, and let people know that PeaceWeek is coming.
We have 40 rolls,...

GREENFIELD RESIDENT FIRST INVESTOR IN SADDLEWORTH COMMUNITY HYDRO
Local resident Dave Sanderson from Greenfield is the first investor in Saddleworth Community Hydro.
“This project shows that local people really can make a small but significant difference to climate change. I like hydro as it is non-intrusive and efficient,...

Day In The Life 1
Caller: So this conference, what are the chances of me finding a decent partner there?
Me: One of the established outcomes of the Conference is an increase in professional partnerships among delegates.
Caller: I’m talking about meeting someone fit – that kind of partner, my brother.
Me: Um, life changing encounters can occur at...

I’ve never seen love in grand gestures
Only in hidden, momentary things
The bingo caller’s lick of your lips,
The bunching of your nasalis muscle before
You begin your admonitions,
The tone switch of your
‘anyway, what was i saying?’
How you ram your hat on your head
before embarking from your flat
Later, such grace as the ship sinks:
Children...

Aged 24, I was in Paris for a job interview. I got there from Manchester clinging to my brother on the back of his BMW Tourer motorbike. We stopped in Paris’s Arab Quarter. I found a great bunch of people, great community there. Then on through the banking quarter. I was struck by how in the central Paris banking zone there was not one black face...

I never looked at poetry changing my life until recently as I just neglected to think how poetry has got me through the rough times as well as good times. The way poetry is a way to express myself no matter what my mood an avenue to be destructive or positive. To show my joy with events and my discontent to spread...

James Brown came onto a stage with that twitching, stiff-legged, electric-kinetic , roaring presence. His songs, including the anthemic ‘Say It Loud’ struck a chord like no-one else’s did. I watched him on stage dancing with Sammy Davies Jr (via youtbe – I aint that old!) and the difference in dancing styles, expressing a difference of attitude...

Last week Year 2 continued to have fun with their Irresistible Curriculum topic. Because the Great Fire of London started in a bakery, we decided that we wanted to be bakers for the morning! We had a great time baking our own bread and it was delicious!

In November we were treated to a special visit from Bardo the Barred Owl and Ross and Rosemarie from the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre. Ross and Rosemarie taught us all about owls and then we got to do a pellet dissection! Somehow Mrs. Watson forgot all about posting the video …better late than never! We would like to thank...

On Thursday we Skyped with our friends in B4. It was the last day of the school year in New Zealand and we were so glad that Mrs. McKenzie and her class could squeeze in a Skype call.
Mrs. McKenzie and B4 were a part of the Our World, Our Stories project. We also have connections with B4 going back to when we first started blogging. Last year...

Our latest art project was inspired by the book Dream Snow, written by Eric Carle. The book has beautiful illustrations and uses plastic overlays to add snow to many of the pictures.
We started by creating our backgrounds with shades of blue and purple and then painted our snowmen. We added details to our snowmen using the painted paper we...
